Detailed Steps and Example Templates for Importing

The import function allows you to set up multiple users at a time using a CSV template.  If you have more than 50 users the import function can streamline user creation and importing shares.

Our best practice is to use a spreadsheet below to create the import users list and then convert to a CSV file to open in Notepad and paste into the import window. This also ensures that you have a complete record of all users and import data.

Please review the detailed links (mentioned below) which explain what belongs in the columns. These should be reviewed and modified or deleted if you don’t want to import that information.

Detailed Steps for Importing Users in Bulk

 

1. Open the “Blank User Import Syntax Template” file above and delete fields not needed. Create your user syntaxes using each corresponding column  
2. Save the document and open the CSV file in notepad. *Note you must have “all files” as the format criteria to locate the CSV file.
3. Opening the CSV file in notepad will show your syntax and imports on separate lines ready to be copy and pasted.
4. Log in as the administrator in your web browser and go to the import function located in the Users tab.
4. Paste the full syntax and your user syntaxes into the import function and click on the import button.

 

Detailed Steps for Importing Restricted Shared Folders in Bulk

1. Open the “Example Share Syntax Template” file above. Create your share syntaxes using each corresponding column
2. Save the document and open the CSV file in notepad. *Note you must have “all files” as the format criteria to locate the CSV file. Copy the full syntax and your share syntaxes  
2. After opening your CSV file in notepad, you can view and copy the full syntax and your imports to directly paste into the import function.  
3. Log in as the administrator in your web browser and go to the import function located in the Files tab > Sharing  
4. Paste the descriptor syntax and your share syntaxes into the import function and click on the import button.
