There are many different user types that can be defined in Hosted~FTP~’s system. See below for all the types of users and their functions:
User Type and Bundle Availability | Description |
Account Administrator
(Availability: All Bundles) |
This is the owner of the account who has full authorization with all tabs, as shown below. The account admin is the only user that can manage the payment, upgrade, cancellation, and customize the interface.
|
Operational Administrator
(Availability: Enterprise Only) |
This is a user that has been given additional privileges to manage other users and contacts like the Account Administrator. An Operational Admin can be a Managed User which removes the Setup tab, and the ability to change login credentials.
|
Group Administrator
(Availability: Enterprise Only) |
This user has the ability to Add users and Usernames only in their own Group that they have been made into Administrator. The Users list contains only their own users. As a best practice, change the welcome message to notify the user is a group administrator, enabling adding users to their specified group.
|
User
(Availability: All Bundles) |
A user has their own workspace and mail folder and can define folders and contacts and upload/download files and manage their own settings like login credentials, mail settings, 2-step verification and more.
|
Managed User – Full Access
(Availability: All Bundles) |
A Managed User is created when an Administrator goes to the selected user’s settings and checkmarks “Manage user settings”. When “Full Access” is selected, the user has the permission to upload and download files.
Giving “Full Access” gives the same authorization as a regular User. However, Managed Users do not have a Setup tab to change their login credentials, signature, 2-step verification, mail settings and more. |
Managed User -Read-only Access
(Availability: All Bundles) |
A Managed User is created when an Administrator goes to the selected user’s settings and checkmarks “Manage user settings”. When “Read-only” is selected, the user has the permission to only download files.
A Managed User (Read-only access), has their own workspace but can only download files/folders and cannot change their settings such as login credentials, 2-step verification, signature, mail settings and more. |
Contact
(Availability: All Bundles) |
A contact does not have a workspace and can only: send, upload and download files when granted the permission to by a user or admin.
|
Anonymous
(Availability: All Bundles) |
An Anonymous is a 3rd party that does not need any login credentials to access files. This is a standard FTP anonymous user that is shared: public links, plugins or URLs to be given access to the specific files or to be given upload capability to your FTP.
One example: Hosted~FTP~ provides anonymous access by sharing an URL with the syntax below. You can download the document inside to find out how you can do it yourself. Click Here: |
Different User authorizations allow only certain functions to be available. Below is a general functions chart and does not include all features and functions.
