FileZilla Tools – Bookmarking, Searching, using Multiple Connections

FileZilla Tutorials – Bookmark, search, and use multi-connect

In the third part of our FileZilla tutorials, learn how to use the bookmark feature, search tool, and multiple connections to increase the efficiency of your file transfers.
Click here to Download FileZilla or click here for more FileZilla Tutorials. View our video tutorial or follow the step-by-step guide below.

Use the Bookmark feature

The bookmark feature allows you to create a shortcut to folders inside either your remote site (HostedFTP account) or local site (PC) to quickly access files. Typically, bookmarks are used to quicken your transfers to frequently used folders. To use the bookmark feature, follow the instructions below:

  1. Find the file or folder you want to bookmark.
  2. Go to the top of the interface and click “bookmarks” then “add bookmarks” from the drop-down menu.
  3. In the bookmark window, select “Global bookmark” to create a bookmark that can be seen when connected to any site connection or “Site-specific bookmark” to create a bookmark that can only be seen when connected to your current site connection.
  4. Give the bookmark a name.
  5. Pair folders to be opened during the bookmark by specifying the folders in the local and remote directory fields. By default, FileZilla will select the current folders opened in FileZilla.
  6. Select “Synchronized browsing” if you have identical folder structures, to mirror folder navigation on your local and remote site simultaneously.
  7. Select “Directory comparison” to have FileZilla highlight the different files and folders in your local and remote site.
  8. Go to “bookmarks” at the top of FileZilla to use your bookmark at any time.

Use the Search feature to locate files or folders

The search feature allows you to browse your local or remote site for specific folders or files using keywords and filters. To learn how to use the search feature, follow the instructions below:

  1. Highlight the directory you want to search through.
  2. Click the search icon, go to Server then search remote files or press F3 on your keyboard.
  3. In the search window, select remote or local search.
  4. Use the filters to narrow your search and specify a keyword to begin your search.
  5. Once you find the file or folder, you can right-click it to view the options.

Open multiple site connections

FileZilla has the capability to have multiple connections open simultaneously. Typically, multiple site connections can be used to log in as multiple users and view folder structure and files. To open multiple site connections, follow the instructions below:

  1. Click the site connection button or go to File then Site Manager.
  2. Open a new connection.
  3. Once prompted, you can select Establish in new tab
