AndFTP Tutorial – Connecting, uploading and downloading

AndFTP is an FTP, FTPS, SCP, SFTP client for Android devices. Manage several FTP/SFTP connections on your mobile device, tablets, etc. and upload/download multiple files and folders with just a touch of a button. View the video tutorial at the end of the article.

In the first part of our AndFTP tutorials, learn how to connect, upload and download to and from your FTP, SFTP server or HostedFTP account. Before you can begin, you’re going to need to collect 3 pieces of information:

  1. Hostname (by default for HostedFTP users: ftp.hostedftp.com)
  2. Username (or email address)
  3. Password

Connecting with SFTP

When connecting with SFTP you also require to know your default remote directory. This is the folder you want to land in when you connect via AndFTP.

To connect to your HostedFTP account, follow the instructions below:

Open AndFTP on your Android device and click on the + button to open the site manager
Input your hostname, username, and password in their fields

In the drop-down menu beside Type select your protocol (FTP, FTPS, SFTP)

You can input the default remote directory in the Remote dir field if needed

For any advanced procedures press the Advanced tab and setup SSH keys, PKI keys, etc.
Click on the Save button to keep your FTP site saved on your device.

Now you can connect anytime by pressing the folder in the AndFTP app.

To upload or download, follow the instructions below:

  1. Switch between your remote site (HostedFTP account) or local site (mobile device) by using the cloud (remote site) or the phone (local site) icons to switch between sites.
  2. Tab and hold the file(s) you want to download or upload. Select a file from your remote site to download or select a file from your local site to upload.
  3. Once you’ve selected a file, toggle to the directory you want to either upload or download to.
  4. Click the upload or download (depending on what site you’re in) to transfer the file(s).
